The Tao of Friday

There was once a whole Buffy episode related to death.  The episode is called The Body, but what made it so poignant to me was the focus on all the empty spaces.  We felt the death of the character by the absence of anything more than the presence of something like a specter of Death.  The Tao, in Chapter XI, speaks about the empty spaces and how they are more important than the things we humans use to fill them up.

We join spokes together in a wheel,
but it is the center hole
that makes the wagon move.

We shape clay into a pot,
but it is the emptiness inside
that holds whatever we want.

We hammer wood for a house,
but it is the inner space
that makes it livable.

We work with being,
but non-being is what we use.
